Workshop series on the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals - Climate action and biodiversity
The impacts of climate change are already evident pose a significant threat to life as we know it. These effects manifest in various ways, such as extreme and fluctuating weather patterns, prolonged droughts, wildfires, the weakening of sea currents and a rise in sea levels. If left unchecked, these changes could trigger widespread mass migrations, affect global agriculture and disrupt every ecosystem on Earth.
Additionally, there is a growing discourse on the interconnection between biodiversity and climate change. Diverse wildlife and plant species play a crucial role, in fostering thriving ecosystems, offer protection against natural disasters and regulating the climate. However. the alarming rate of species extinction poses a critical challenge. Many of the world’s biodiversity hotspots are located in countries grappling with high levels of poverty, food insecurity, and escalating climate change impacts.
What implications are there connected to climate and biodiversity and how do they intersect with our daily lives and well-being? What measures are taken and how are they integrated into our legal and monetary systems?
Inspirational speakers are:
- Andreas Vilhelmsson (Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Faculty of Medicine): Health in relation to climate. Andreas Vilhelmsson - Lund University
