Policy for sustainable development

The sustainability policy is the basis for the work on environment and sustainability. The policy states that the University’s wish and ambition is to be a driving force for sustainable development and to contribute to achieving the sustainability goals in Agenda 2030.
Below is the whole policy, adopted on 2016-12-09.

The achievement of sustainable development that satisfies today’s needs without jeopardising future generations’ opportunities to satisfy theirs, requires society to address a number of major and complex ecological, social and economic challenges.

Lund University is to work to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition, thereby being a driving force for sustainable development. Through education, research and external engagement with wider society, the University is to make reliable knowledge available today and in the future. Lund University is to contribute to the implementation of Agenda 2030, which contains the UN’s sustainable development goals.

During their education, students at Lund University are to gain insights and knowledge on aspects of sustainable development that are relevant to their subject. Thus, the students will come to spearhead sustainable development in their professional lives.

One of the objectives of research and external engagement is to promote sustainable development.

The principle of “practising what we preach”, working preventively, for continuous improvements and compliance with applicable legislation, is to characterise everyday activities at Lund University. This is a credibility issue that presumes active participation from the University’s employees and students.
