Study of wastewater reuse in Simrishamn get funds from Svenskt Vatten Utveckling

More frequent droughts combined with climate change, but also a more advanced wastewater treatment, have placed wastewater reuse high on the Agenda. Simrishamn is one of the Swedish municipalities having received funds from the Swedish EPA for an expanded wastewater treatment for removal of pharmaceutical residues. In this study, funded by Svenskt Vatten Utveckling, the treatment process will be studied to evaluate the reuse potential, focusing on microbiological processes and how these affect the water quality.
The funded project will run for about 1.5 years and is a part of graduate school doctoral student Maria Takman’s research. It is a cooperation between Lund University, Kristianstad University, and Österlen VA AB.
Research project of theatre gets continued attention

PhD student of Theatre, Steinunn Knúts-Önnudóttir, gets attention for her artistic work and research project. Her project NoShow was performed at Reykjavík Art Festival that hosts internationally acclaimed artists and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The work NoShow forms part of the PhD project of Steinunn Knúts-Önnudóttir.
Also, Steinunn Knúts-Önnudóttir has recently worked with a project in Hrísey, a community on the North coast of Iceland, in collaboration with Akureyri Theatre Company. She performed at Akureyri Cultural week and A!Festival, an international performance Festival in Akureyri.

Graduate School co-workers get substantial funding for research for Agenda 2030

Only 11 projects were selected to recieve funding among 174 applications in the 210 million SEK FORMAS call for research focused on the 2030 Agenda.The coordinator for the graduate school, Kristina Jönsson, is part of the project "Transformative partnerships for sustainable development" coordinated by the Institute for Future Studies. Steering group member of the graduate school, Ester Barinaga, is part of the funded project "Special-purpose money: Complementary digital currencies and the sustainable development goals".

Realizing the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development – engaging national parliaments?

Our coordinator Kristina Jönsson co-authored an article with Magdalena Bexell on the role of national parliaments in policy processes related to the realization of the 2030 Agenda. The cases of Sweden and Ghana show weak involvement of the respective parliaments in policy-making related to the 2030 Agenda, which is suggested to possibly affect the domestic democratic legitimacy and realization of the agenda.
Students challenge sustainability work of businesses in reversed mentorship programme

Sustainable Future Hub at Lund University School of Economics and Management have implemented a reversed mentorship programme. In the project our PhD student Juan Ocampo and other students exchange experiences and ideas on sustainable business development with the local industry.

Our PhD student Emelie Lantz is one of the co-authors of a debate article arguing for appointing a post corona commission to make sure the investments after the pandemic have a focus on sustainability and reaching the 2030 Agenda.

Research for Agenda 2030: Values of Our Economic System

The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University collaborated with our coordinator Kristina Jönsson and PhD student Juan Ocampo on their latest episode of the podcast series Advancing Sustainble Solutions. In the episode complementary currencies as a community-tool to incorporate social and environmental values into our economic systems is discussed. The episode also highlights the need for financial inclusion to ensure all communities have access to basic needs.
