About the PhD conference

New ideas and research are needed to identify and solve complex societal challenges. The PhD conference is an opportunity to encourage interdisciplinary cooperation in order to further academic research on all aspects of sustainability.

The year of 2023 marks the mid-point of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which is based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals that includes ending poverty, reducing inequality and tackling climate change. Early efforts after the SDGs were adopted produced some favourable trends. In the past three years however, disasters such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and climate-related disasters have veered many of the goals off-track. Therefore, an acceleration of progress was called for at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July 2022.

Science, technology and innovation are seen by the United Nations as important in order to confront crises in transformative ways and it should be encouraged to remove barriers that prevent creative solutions across disciplines. And this is something that the Lund University Agenda 2030 Graduate School want to further promote on a local scale. An acceleration of progress is important in all disciplines to reach sustainable development, whether it is law, social science, medicine or art.

The aim with the conference is to showcase ongoing research and offer a networking opportunity for PhDs with similar interests in sustainable development from the whole of Lund University. It will be a space to meet and share ideas and research, and hopefully strengthen existing as well as generate future cooperation across disciplines, departments and faculties.

Please note that the call for proposals is now closed.

We invite panels, papers, posters and other activities. You can suggest whole panels with fellow PhD students discussing research papers, or round-table panels on a specific topic or theme. You can organize a knowledge sharing session, have a walk and talk, submit an individual paper or poster, propose an artistic/cultural activity, an exhibition, living labs, videos, or something else.
